Tigers’ Double Digit Win

Neither side shined when it came to pitching, in yet another marathon game, but the Tigers definitely got the bigger part of the stick. The Tigers traded hits, runs and home runs with the Mariners throughout the game. The Tigers had at least two men on base, throughout the first six innings. However, it was an explosive 5th inning, for Tigers hitters that really split this game open. In their biggest inning since 2008, the Tigers sent 13 men to the plate and scored nine, for the 16-4 lead.

Things would get interesting again in the 7th, for Tigers reliever Shane Greene. The Mariners would score one and load the bases. Wilson would relieve Greene, and get out of the jam, with only two pitches. Tiger batters were back at it again in the 8th, with a 2 home run shot from Center Fielder, Mikie Mahtook. Alex Avila would tack on another run for the 19-7 lead, on a ground out from McCann. Tiger pitcher Joe Jimenez almost had the first 1-2-3 inning, for either side, but with a questionable call, and a walk to Zumino, Brad Ausmus had to go deeper into the bullpen, while protecting a 12 run lead in the 9th. The Mariners would score twice before Tigers got the elusive, final out, and the 19-9 win.

Zimmerman would go 6 innings, giving up 5 runs on 11 hits, with no walks and 1 strikeout. Jim Adduci had yet another outstanding, 3 hit game, including a double and a triple. Five different Tigers had 3 hits, or more.

With their third straight win, the Tigers climb to 11-8. Wednesday night’s matchup will see Daniel Norris facing off against Mariner, James Paxton. Coverage begins at 6:45, Wednesday night, on 95.3 WBCK.
