There was a little hope for the Detroit Tigers after shutting out the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday night. The hope was gone early for the Motown Cats.

The Pirates would score in each of the first four innings on their way to a 7-4 victory at Comerica Park. The loss for the Tigers was their fifth in the last six games.

Three players each had two hits, with Nicholas Castellanos driving in two runs on the afternoon. Mikie Mahtook would provide an RBI with his seventh homer of the season. Victor Martinez and James McCann would drive in a run each in the ninth to give the Tigers a late chance.

After a solid first start this season with the big club, Drew VerHagen was rocked in 3 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on nine hits to fall to 0-2 on the year.

The Tigers now await the Minnesota Twins for a three-game series beginning Friday night in Detroit. The opener will see Anibal Sanchez (3-2, 6.62 ERA) on the mound for the Tigers. The Twins will counter with Kyle Gibson (6-9, 6.03 ERA). Join us for all the action at 6:45pm on 95.3 WBCK!
