The Tigers just couldn’t catch up with the Rockies, Tuesday night, and lost 7-3. The third and seventh inning was the story of the game, for Michael Fulmer and Colorado hitters.  In the 3rd, the Rockies tacked on a pair of runs off of a single, a ground out advancing the runners and another single. Fulmer was relieved halfway through the 7th, but the Rockies would send seven to the plate in the inning and score off of a sac fly and a home run, scoring three.

Tiger bats first showed some life in the 5th inning when a double from Hicks would score Mahtook. In the 7th, it was Mahtook at the plate who delivered a home run to left, scoring two. Sadly, that’s where the scoring would end in this game, as the Tigers went down 1-2-3 in the 8th and 9th inning.

In six and a third innings, Michael Fulmer gave up five runs on eight hits, with a walk and three strikeouts. Tiger bats were mostly quiet. Hicks and Mahtook were the only batters with multiple hits. Both went two for four. In spite of the four run deficit, the Rockies only outhit the Tigers, nine to seven. Unfortunately, two of those hits were home runs.

With the loss, the Tigers drop to 57-74. The Tigers will play one more in Colorado, before heading home and hosting Cleveland for four, starting Friday. Our Wednesday afternoon matchup will feature Justin Verlander(9-8  3.90 ERA) versus Chad Bettis(0-1  3.79 ERA). Our coverage begins at 2:45, on 95.3 WBCK.
