(MRN) A bill before the state Senate would require all state-owned or leased vehicles to have a tracking device.

Senator Tonya Schuitmaker is sponsoring the measure after a state elevator inspector in Kalamazoo was caught golfing several times last summer instead of being at work.

The Lawton Republican says devices that record how far and where a vehicle is driven would make sure they are only used for state trips and that the worker is doing his or her job.

That inspector was put on leave last fall and the state Attorney General's office is still investigating.
