Trailer Fire Leaves Battle Creek Child Dead

A fire in a mobile-home on Sunday left a 9-year-old girl dead and her parents injured.

The fire happened around 2pm in the 600 block of Westbrook Avenue in Battle Creek.  Initial investigation shows that the mother and father had been able to escape, but the girl was found dead in a back room after the fire was put out.

The mother had to be transferred to a Kalamazoo hospital for treatment of second degree burns, while the father was treated for smoke inhalation.

The mobile home is deemed a total loss, and officials are still trying to determine what started the fire, but they do not think at this time that it’s suspicious.
