Within 4 hours of each other, the Battle Creek Police Department responded to two accidents, Friday, involving small children and vehicles.

In the first incident, a Battle Creek boy sustained minor injuries after being struck by a car that was backing from a driveway.

At 2:20 PM, Friday afternoon, the Battle Creek Police and emergency services responded to the 200 Block of W. Goguac Street and found that the boy had been pulled from beneath the car, by bystanders.

The boy had been riding down the sidewalk on his bike, with his grand-father walking behind, when a 31 year-old woman backed a car from a driveway, striking the boy. The boy was caught under the car and dragged a few feet into the road.

Due to the sharp incline on the driveway approach, the boy only sustained minor injuries.  He had an injury to his ankle and road rash on his body and head.

The female driver of the car was cited for driving on a suspended license, no proof of insurance and failure to yield when backing out of a driveway.

The second accident took place at approximately 5:45 PM. , when a two year-old boy was struck by a car as it was pulling into the driveway of his home in the 100 Block of Fremont Street.

The Battle Creek Police Department determined that a friend of the boy's father, a 22 year old Battle Creek male, came to their house to get help with car repairs.

The boy had been in the neighbor's yard playing when his father told the driver to pull his car up into the driveway.

As the car moved forward, the boy ran in front of it and was hit and knocked down.  The front tire rolled over the boy's abdomen. It appears that the driver did not see the boy run in front of him.

The boy's father immediately picked up his son and his friend drove them to Bronson Battle Creek hospital.  Once there, the hospital called police.

The two year old was stabilized at Bronson Battle Creek then transported to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo for additional treatment. His condition had not been updated at the time of this report.

The male driver was located and arrested on charges of failing to report an injury crash, driving on a suspended license and additional traffic warrants. He was lodged at the Calhoun County Jail.
