Battle Creek authorities are investigating after the second fire in as many days caused damage to an apartment house on Chestnut Street.

The Tuesday night fire was blamed on an electrical problem and caused minimal damage.  The building caught on fire again last night at around 9 and caused much more extensive damage.

Firefighters evacuated the residents of the apartments and tried to rescue two cats from inside, but they were eventually found dead.

Crews were at the scene for three and a half hours getting the fire put out and beginning their investigation.
