A Kalamazoo man arrested over the weekend in a shooting spree was formally charged with 16 counts related to the case Monday afternoon.

Kalamazoo County Prosecutor Jeff Getting authorized the charges against 45-year-old Jason Dalton, who was arrested early Sunday morning.

Dalton was arraigned on six counts for open murder, two more for assault with intent to murder and eight counts of felony firearm. The charges stem from three separate shootings in Richland and Texas townships and the city of Kalamazoo over a possible six-hour spree, fatally shooting six people and injuring two others. One of the two injured victims remains in critical condition.

Dalton faces up to life in prison if convicted. A preliminary hearing has been set for March 3rd and was denied bail.

The investigation of the case continues.
