The Maple Valley Lions are proving to be a team to contend with in the Kalamazoo Valley Association following their 38-31 win Tuesday night over the visiting Galesburg-Augusta Rams.

The Lions led 12-7 at the end of the first period, but were held in check by the Rams in the second period with Andrew Brighton scoring the only bucket for Maple Valley, who took a 14-13 lead into the locker room at the half.  Maple Valley regrouped and came out shooting in the second half, pulling away to a 12-point lead over Galesburg-Augusta with the score at 28-18 at the buzzer ending the third period.  The Rams offense poured it on during the final period, pulling within three of the Lions, but it was too late to spoil Maple Valley’s perfect record on the season.  The Rams did have fewer turnovers during the game with nine, compared to the Lions’ 17.

Andrew Brighton led Maple Valley’s scoring with 15-points and 12-rebounds.  Luis Martinez-Fernandez and Austin Gonser each had 10-points for the Lions.  The only Rams player scoring in double-digits was Austin Douglas with 15-points and 12 rebounds.  John Born added four-points with seven rebounds and a pair of assists, while Ryan Ranes had two-points and seven rebounds.

Maple Valley's record improves to 3-and-0 while Galesburg-Augusta drops to 1-and-2.
