The Battle Creek-based Veterans Helping Veterans organization plans a ruck march on Veteran's Day, and an expansion in the future.

The organization, made of current and former service people, seeks to assist homeless veterans with household items, furniture and other goods. Their recipients are veterans who have lost their homes and belongings and are working to re-enter civilian life.

Sarah Pauley, a veteran herself and a Veterans Helping Veterans volunteer, says many of the recipients of their efforts have suffered from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or other aftereffects of their military service.

The organization is looking for a warehouse space - or even land on which to build a facility. The overall vision, Pauley said, is to expand operations to respond better to the needs of the veterans they serve.

The ruck march happens Saturday, November 11, 2017 (Veteran's Day) from FireKeepers Casino Hotel to Dark Horse Brewery in Marshall. Registration begins at 8 a.m. at FireKeepers, with a special event to follow at Dark Horse. Dark Horse plans an unveiling of a special coffee and special beers honoring veterans. Some proceeds from the sale of both will benefit Veterans Helping Veterans.
