Road work continues this weekend in Battle Creek; here are the details from a City press release:

Streets to see milling and paving work this week

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. — As part of the city’s 2015 Street Resurfacing Program, a number of streets will be milled and paved this week and next.

All of the work is dependent on the weather. If crews are able to complete it as planned, the work on the following streets should be finished by June 26.

Streets will be open to traffic during this work and residents will have access to their driveways with minor disruptions; residents in these areas will receive door hangers prior to the start of work. We appreciate everyone’s patience during this work.

Beginning Thursday, June 18:

Newtown Avenue
Robertson Avenue
Independence Avenue

Once the above work is completed:

Breckenridge Lane
Sterling Court
Westchester Way, from 200 feet west of Devonshire Court to the end

Beginning Friday, June 19 (dependent on any delays from previous work):

24th Street from Territorial Road to Columbia Avenue
Garrison Avenue from Pleasantview Drive to Roosevelt Avenue
Cornell Drive from Orchard Avenue to East Avenue

This type of resurfacing is a quick process in which 1.5 to 2 inches are milled off the top of the street, enough to remove defects. After that, crews place a new layer of asphalt. This treatment can last up to 10 years and works well on streets with transverse cracks and worn down top surfaces.
