On Thursday afternoon, the city of Battle Creek issued a Drinking Water Advisory for infants after several tests showed elevated levels of manganese. The sample in question was taken at a fire hydrant site in Springfield. While bottled water is regularly available for infants up to 1-year-old, some are asking, what about pets?

At the press conference, the question was asked and city officials said that pet owners should follow the same protocol and use bottled water for puppies, kittens, or other pets that are in their infant stages. However, they said older dogs and cats should be fine just like humans.

The Dickman Road Veterinary Clinic put out a Facebook post shortly after the press release with their take on how to handle pets drinking water during this advisory.

Stay with 95.3 WBCK as we continue to follow the different angles and provide updates on the water advisory as they become available.
