What The Election Results Mean For MI

Remember what President Barack Obama and the Democrats said after they won elections?

Elections have consequences.

What might those consequences be for Michigan?

For Michigan — and possibly the nation — it could mean pushing for less onerous regulation and lowering the country's tax burden. Although, Michigan's Gov. Rick Snyder is looking to increase spending on roads and bridges.

Michigan State University political science professor Matt Grossmann stated, as I have been saying for years, that the U.S. has now settled into a pattern of “nationalized partisan elections, where politicians are mostly judged on their party and their party’s brand.”

With last Tuesday's wave election, there are probably enough Republican and Democrat elected officials in the Senate that a vote on the Keystone Pipeline might have a veto-proof majority to build the pipeline.

What does that mean? I believe it means creating many good-paying Union jobs, as well as supporting ones, and keeping our energy prices lower.

The problem is that President Obama has already indicated that he will use his executive power to bypass the Congress. We will have to see what happens.

Will the Republicans be able to pass tax reform and lower corporate taxes to help our economy and create more good-paying jobs?  If they do, they will need to also cut spending. Let's see if they have the guts to do so.

Remember the U.S. has the highest corporate tax rate in the industrialized world.

We will have to wait and see what comes of the clear message sent to the President and the Democrats — that clear message being we do not like the policies the Democrats have been pushing and the track it has sent the U.S. on.
