So what’s up with “The Hub”?   Last May, we first told you about FireKeeper’s Casino’s plan to renovate Battle Creek’s old fire station #4 on Kendall Street into a restaurant, meeting place, and greenhouse.  They had an optimistic goal to open in the fall, but that didn’t happen.  But, lots of things are happening at the site, and Firekeeper’s VP of Food and Beverage Michael McFarlen will be on 95.3 WBCK Friday to give you an update.

McFarlen, who came up with the initial idea, will be a guest on the Richard Piet Show, following the 8am news.  The project is now being called “The Fire Hub”.

The Fire Hub, a retail restaurant, food pantry and a series of greenhouses created by FireKeepers Casino Hotel.   Part of the mission will be to grow food for local schools to serve students in lunchrooms.

FireKeepers Vice President of Marketing Jim Wise told Dillon Davis of the Battle Creek Enquirer that the original target date of Oct. 7 was deemed "too optimistic," particularly as the casino sought approvals.

That was in mid-November, and Wise said mid-to-late January is a more reasonable target date for the facility to open its doors to the public.  More info is posted at thee Fire Hub Facebook Page.
