Woman Accused Of Trying To Kill Infant Daughter

A Lansing-area woman is behind bars after police say she attempted to kill her seven-month-old baby outside an Ohio water park.

Erie County Sheriff's deputies say 33-year-old RuthGrace Smith of Delhi Township made a 911 call Friday afternoon from her SUV in the parking lot of the Kalahari Waterpark Resort in Sandusky. She told dispatchers she tried to smother her child with a pillow.

Smith later blamed the incident on a custody dispute with the baby's father, saying she would have rather killed the child than give up custody. She's been charged with attempted murder and is being held without bond.

The baby was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and released on Saturday to her father, also a Lansing-area resident.
