Battle Creek Police investigators are looking into the death of a woman Thursday afternoon after she was hit by a train.

A westbound train had struck the woman on East Fountain Street near Dickman Road just after 2pm. Authorities learned that the train was traveling 10-to-15 miles per hour and was blaring the horn in what is a city-ordinanced silent zone. It also was recently turned into a dead in and fenced off to not allow anyone to cross the tracks.

Investigators are not sure if the woman had earphones or ear buds on. They also were told that the woman refused to move even with multiple sound warnings.

She was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities say the 48-year-old woman was homeless.
