Two Coldwater residents died in a three vehicle accident that left three others injured, one with possibly life threatening injuries, on Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 4:02 p.m., Deputies from the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff, along with the Spring Arbor Township Fire Department and Jackson Community Ambulance responded to a fatal traffic crash on King Road at Sandstone Road in Spring Arbor Township.

The investigation determined a 2008 Saturn traveling southbound on Sandstone Road entered the intersection of Sandstone Road and King Road. In the intersection the Saturn struck a westbound 2016 Cadillac ATS forcing the rear of the Cadillac into the eastbound lane of King Road. The Cadillac was then struck by an eastbound Ford Explorer.

The two back seat passengers of the Cadillac were ejected from the vehicle and were pronounced dead at the scene. Those passengers were a male and a female, 84 and 81 years of age from Coldwater. The front seat passenger of the Cadillac, a 53 year old female from Coldwater, was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Health by Jackson Community Ambulance with severe, possibly life threatening injuries. The driver of the Cadillac, a 53 year old male from Coldwater, was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance with serious injuries.

The driver of the Ford Explorer, a 47 year old female from Clarklake, was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Health with injuries that were not considered life threatening.

The driver of the Saturn, a 24 year old female from Litchfield, was not injured.

It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol are a factor in the crash at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
