2002 Detroit Red Wings Team Named 10th Best All Time By NHL Fans
In the last 20 years, the Detroit Red Wings have had some legendary teams. One of those teams, the 2002 cup champions were voted as one of the best in an NHL poll.
According to the story at M-Live, 2002 Red Wings team was voted 10th best all time by NHL fans. Two other legendary teams were announced, 83-84 Edmonton Oilers and 77-78 Montreal Canadiens. As of now those are 10, 9, 8 on the list. The rest will be announced during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
If you don't remember this 2002 team featured some of the best to have ever played the game. You can say one of the best when 9 members of this team are now in the Hall of Fame in Toronto.
Long time legends like Steve Yzerman, Nicklas Lidstrom, Sergei Federov, Brendan Shanahan, Igor Larionov, Chris Chelios, Dominik Hasek and Luc Robitaille all were members of this team.
Coached by one of the all time greats Scotty Bowman (also in the hall).
This was one of my favorite Red Wings teams, other than the cup champions from 1996-1997. Even though it featured all of those hall of fame players, my favorite player during those cup wins was Kris Draper.
Normally I would be surprised this team was ranked 10th, but when you look at the history of the game there are many teams that could be ranked in the top 7. We will see who else makes the list.
One of the greatest teams ever and it was great to see them win the Stanley Cup against Carolina.
