Two months ago, we heard the sad news that Swonk's Flower shop was closing.  But then came word that a group of business people were stepping up to save the historic business at 84 Goguac Street in Battle Creek.

Robert Paul is one of the new owners.  Paul operates Ad Solutions Media and Design, LLC and says that he and his partners wanted to preserve the historic flower shop and save the jobs of the seven people working there.  He, along with Joel and Jared Fulton, owners of Freedom Firearms, and Heather Powell are the owners of the business.  Powell is the store manager.  The new name for the business is "Swonk's Flowers and Gifts."

Kathy Swonk, grandchild to the original owners, said,  “I am so pleased that my grandfather, Charles Swonk’s dream of owning a greenhouse on Goguac Street will continue after 90 plus years of service. His name will remain on the sign and that makes me, his granddaughter, very happy!”

Bill Simonds, another grandchild of the original owners and local businessmen, stated, “Our family is excited and proud Swonk’s Flowers and Gifts is still serving our community. We love our customers and look forward to hearing from you!!!”
