An Calhoun County pharmacy was swarming with federal agents during a raid Tuesday.

WWMT reports that Drug Enforcement Agency agents were looking into the Park Drug Store in Albion, in connection to the possible illegal distribution of prescription drugs.

Dr. Horace Davis, who had a practice in Albion, was federally indicted over the summer for improperly prescribing opioid painkillers. Park Drug had been filling prescriptions from Dr. Davis, even after he was indicted.

The prescription of opioid painkillers like hydrocodone and codeine can sometimes lead to opioid dependence. Battle Creek Police Chief Jim Blocker and Summit Pointe's Jeannie Goodrich spoke to WBCK this month, and said that oftentimes when a person who is addicted to painkillers gets cut off, they turn towards drugs like heroin.
