A man from Olivet was killed in a crash in northeastern Calhoun County Sunday afternoon.

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office says that they were called to the intersection of 28 Mile Rd. and M Drive N in Clarence Township around 5pm Sunday; the 911 caller said that a vehicle had gone through the area while squealing its tires before it crashed into a tree. First responders found that the vehicle’s passenger, a 52-year-old Olivet man, died as a result of injuries from the crash; the driver, a 37-year-old Olivet man, was taken to the hospital in Jackson to be treated with their current condition unknown.

The preliminary investigation by the Sheriff’s Office shows that the vehicle had been southbound on 28 Mile Rd. when it left the roadway on a curve; the driver attempted to regain control, but ended up swerving and crashed into a tree on the opposite side of the road.

The Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction team is looking into the incident, and it’s possible that alcohol and speed were factors.
