There’s a lot of excitement in downtown Battle Creek, and one of the city’s foremost cheerleaders, Chamber of Commerce Director Kara Beer, was on 95.3 WBCK to talk about a few exciting things.

The 4th Annual Backyard Burgers & Brewfest is this Saturday, August 25th.

Battle Creek’s finest burger emporiums and restaurants fire up their grills at 6pm until 11pm at Festival Marketplace in Downtown Battle Creek. Taste some of the best burgers and food trucks in and around Battle Creek, then vote for your favorite!

Kara Beer says they’ll have a judged competition for "best burger" as well as the People's Choice winner.  Beer says they’ll have food trucks out in force, with plenty of food for all.  The band “Beer For Breakfast” will be playing.   She says there will also be a free Cornhole Tournament.   Sign up your team by clicking here.

Bring chairs!   They’ll have plenty of fun things for the kids and non-alcoholic drinks too.

BC Cargo Pop-Up Shop Marketplace

Beer talked about the latest ribbon cutting at the BC Cargo Pop-Up Shop Marketplace.  Red Line BBQ launched on Thursday.   Beer explained that BC Cargo is a business launch pad for entrepreneurs. Seven industrial cargo shipping containers have been converted to retail shops in downtown Battle Creek at the Corner of Hamblin Avenue and McCamly Street.  It’s an effort supported by the City’s small business development fund.  She said the hope is that these businesses will get established and move into “brick & mortar” locations.   Beer says they’ve already had twice as many ribbon cuttings this summer, compared to a normal year.

Rap with Your Reps

What’s in the proposed recreational marijuana law that voters will make a decision on this November?  It’s a chance to find out what’s in the ballot language, what it means for business owners and employers.  The Chamber will have an expert on hand to talk about it on Tuesday September 4th at the Lew Boyd Room at the Kool Family Center.
