A Battle Creek man was injured while crossing a road on his bicycle Monday afternoon.

MLive reports that around 3:45pm Monday, the 48-year-old man was crossing S. Westnedge in Portage near Garden Lane on his bike, when a truck, driven by a 51-year-old Portage man, turned left, causing a collision.

The cyclist was taken to the hospital, but his injuries are described as minor.

Just last week, The City of Portage passed rules designed to keep bicyclists safer; among them, a minimum passing distance for cars, and a resolution to promote bicycle safety throughout the city. Similar bills are currently in the Michigan Legislature.
