The City of Battle Creek and Calhoun County are, once again, holding a recycling event to collect electronics and Styrofoam No. 6.

This event is free for those living within Calhoun County, and is an effort to encourage neighbors to dispose of these items in responsible ways, keeping them out of landfills. These items cannot be placed in the city’s curbside recycling containers.

The collection takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 at the city’s Department of Public Works, 150 S. Kendall St.

Here are the items that will be accepted on August 24th:

  • Electronics: Computers (including laptops),
  • LCD and CRT monitors
  • Printers, wires and cords,
  • Computer peripherals,
  • Copy and fax machines,
  • Audio and visual equipment
  • Plasma/LCD/tube TVs
  • Game consoles

  • Car and household batteries
  • Other items with a cord

This collection is for residential electronic waste only, and fees will apply to a large amount of material brought to the collection without proper notice. Anyone with a large quantity of electronics should contact an electronics company directly for proper disposal.
