Two Suspects In Battle Creek House Fire Death Due In Court
Battle Creek authorities say a man accused in a suspected attack and arson earlier this week that left one person dead and another seriously injured is expected in court today. There has also been a second arrest. The first suspect, a Battle Creek man whose name has not been released, faces charges of open murder and attempted murder, according to the Battle Creek Enquirer. A 54-year-old woman, also now in custody, is scheduled to be arraigned on charges of being an accessory after the fact in the case.
Both were arrested around 3 ½ hours after the 64-year-old victim was found dead inside his home in the 300 block of North Washington Avenue. Battle Creek firefighters also rescued a severely injured 37-year-old Bellevue woman from the blaze. Crews were called to the house Tuesday evening after two firefighters on light duty were passing by the home after a lunch break and saw smoke coming from the structure.
