Battle Creek Man Jailed For Attempting To Use Fake $100

A Battle Creek man was arrested for attempting to use a counterfeit $100 bill at a convenient store located within the city.

Battle Creek police were called on Sunday afternoon to K&A Market located at 94 North Avenue, after a store clerk says a 49-year-old man attempted to purchase cigarettes using a fake $100 bill.

Employees of the store said the man entered the store, stood in front of the in store ATM and then presented them with the fake $100 and asked for cigarettes, according to the Battle Creek Enquirer. The clerk said he knew the bill was counterfeit. Battle Creek police said the paper was not even similar to paper used in currency and that the bill had Chinese characters written on it.

The man allegedly told officers he obtained the bill from the in store ATM but employees at the store showed officers that the ATM only contained $20 bills. The man then changed his story telling police he found the bill in the parking lot of the store.

The 49-year-old man was arrested and taken to the Calhoun County jail.
