Battle Creek Mayor Mark Behnke will continue the city’s Mayor for another term.  Voting among themselves for the leadership posts, city commissioners are voting unanimously to keep Behnke in the Mayors job along with a repeat term for Sherry Sofia as Battle Creek’s Vice Mayor. All of this is happening with a potential change for deciding the city’s leadership and placing selection of a Mayor directly in the hands of the city’s voters.

Pending language and process approval by state elections administrators – the change to the city charter to elect a Mayor separate from the city commission will be decided during next year’s March elections. Even if voters approve that change …the city’s Vice Mayor will continue to be chosen from among the commissioners.

City Commissioners last night also set schedules for regular meetings through the end of next year.
