Battle Creek Motel Owner Charged With Violating Labor Laws
A motel owner in Southwest Michigan, whose Battle Creek property was raided by police last year, has now been indicted on labor charges.
The Battle Creek Enquirer reports that 31-year-old Mahul Patel, who also goes by Mike, is the owner of the Rodeway Inn on Beckley Rd, as well as the Super 8 in Coldwater. At his arraignment in U.S. District Court in Grand Rapids Thursday, he was charged with violating the rules of the Department of Labor, by forcing employees to return to him money after being paid.
He was released on bond, and if convicted he could get five years in prison.
Patel’s case came to be after a raid at the Rodeway Inn in November of 2015, after authorities say he allowed prostitution to take place at the Calhoun County business. That case is still being investigated.
