With St. Patrick's Day on a Thursday this year, Battle Creek Police Officer Derek Walters tells WBCK concerns about safe partying will continue through the coming weekend, as "Irish" revelers play out their holiday plans - which very often involve alcohol.

They aren't discouraging celebrating, but promoting safe celebrating.

Walters tells The Richard Piet Show driving under the influence is still the number one issue they deal with on holidays like St. Patrick's Day, New Year's Eve and the day before Thanksgiving, traditionally big party days that involve drinking alcohol. Bottom line, police say: If you're going to drink, plan ahead for a way home that keeps you out from behind the wheel.
