A former member of the Battle Creek Public Schools school board was ordered to trial Tuesday on charges of possession of child pornography after waiving a preliminary examination. Eric Jankowski, 54, of Springfield, and his attorney, Heath Lynch of Grand Rapids executed the waiver without appearing in the courtroom before the hearing was scheduled to begin before Calhoun County District Judge Samuel Durham.

The case was investigated by the Michigan State Police Computer Crimes Unit, Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Jankowski is charged with possession of child porn and using a computer to commit a crime and faces up to seven years in prison if convicted. Troopers obtained a search warrant and seized evidence at his home in December. Jankowski, elected in 2017 to a six-year term on the board, resigned December 4, the same day the search warrant was executed at his home. He remains free on bond.
