Battle Creek Police were called early Saturday morning to reports of several shots fired at a party. Once they arrived, officers discovered a 23-year-old victim with a gunshot wound to his torso. The man, identified as Elijah Williams, was taken by LifeCare Ambulance to an area hospital where he later passed away from his injuries.

Initial investigations show a fight had broken out at a party on W. Northside Drive and officers responded a little before 4:00 am. Officers on duty in the area also had heard several shots being fired. Several people were at a house when an argument broke out and quickly escalated into a fight. Evidence shows that at least two people were firing shots and Williams was reportedly struck hit in the crossfire.

Detectives interviewed several people who were there and others are still in the process of being interviewed. Persons of interest have been identified, but their names are not being released at this time.
