A Calhoun County teen riding a bicycle was seriously hurt when he collided with a pickup truck Friday afternoon in Bedford Township.

Battle Creek police say it happened around 4:45 p.m. in the 3700 block of West Michigan Avenue near Cook Drive. It was raining at the time. The driver of the pickup, a 36-year-old Bedford Township man, said he was westbound when the 14-year-old rode into the side of his 2004 Ford F-150 truck, striking the passenger side.

The boy suffered a head injury, but was said to be conscious at the scene. He was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Kalamazoo with serious injuries.

Police said neither alcohol nor drugs appear to be factors in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
