The City of Battle Creek has now announced their Annual Community Development Action Plan, and is seeking public comment.

This plan for 2017-18 lays out the city’s plan for federal funding to be used on housing and community development projects like minor home repair and code compliance for low income residents. The City expects to receive around $1 million in federal Community Development Block Grant Funds and $200,000 in HOME Investment Partnership Funds, a projected 10% decrease over the current year.

As well, these funds need to be approved on the federal level by the Department of Housing and Urban Development, and depending on the 2017 federal budget these grants may go away; the city says that in President Trump’s proposed budget as written, funding for the CDBG and HOME Programs would be eliminated.
