The head of one of the largest domestic abuse shelters in Michigan is out of a job.

In a press release, S.A.F.E. Place of Battle Creek has announced that Executive Director Jennifer Fopma was dismissed on Monday, and had been on paid leave since February 12.

The State of Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board was conducting a regularly scheduled review of the organization, and found concerns with S.A.F.E. Place's accounting and reporting of grants.

The S.A.F.E. Place board is working to sort things out, and correct any mistakes made.  They're enlisting the help of the State of Michigan Domestic and Sexual Violence Prevention and Treatment Board to find a new permanent director.

Jennifer Fopma appeared on WBCK in December, to promote a funding drive for S.A.F.E. Place, and saying that the organization needed $75,000 to stay afloat.
