Bedbug Worries Prompt Warning Regarding Mattress Disposal
The City of Battle Creek has announced that Waste Management will be strictly enforcing mattress disposal rules in the future.
The enforcement is due to concern over bedbugs, as well as general sanitation. The City says in a release that mattresses set on the curb for disposal must be completely wrapped in plastic. That includes shrink wraps, tarps or paint drop cloths.
Proper disposal is important, as it ensures the health and safety of residents, waste haulers and city staff. If you place a a mattress on the curb without wrapping it, a large green sticker will be stuck to it. The item will not be picked up unless it is properly contained.
