A Bedford Township man has now been arrested after a series of crimes allegedly stemming from a failed attempt to pay for sex.

Authorities say that the 29-year-old suspect met up with the victims, one male and one female, at the Romantix Adult Store on Michigan Avenue in Battle Creek in the early hours of Sunday morning. The Battle Creek Enquirer says the couple needed gas to get home to Jackson, and a deal was made where the suspect would have sex with the 24-year-old woman in exchange for money.

When the group got to the Bedford man’s home on River Rd, the deal fell through and the couple tried to leave, but the suspect allegedly grabbed a gun and pointed it at them. The 35-year-old man was able to leave and went to a neighbor to get help, but the woman was allegedly held hostage and sexually assaulted; she was able to escape the home afterwards.

Because the man was in his home with a gun, the police response involved armored vehicles, but the suspect did surrender shortly after they arrived. He was arrested and is facing charges of kidnapping, sexual assault and felonious assault.
