A recent murder-suicide in Emmett Township involving a Calhoun County Sheriff's deputy and his wife sent shock waves through local circles, including law enforcement. Among the peripheral details that incident kicked up was a startling statistic: There are more officer involved suicides than deaths in the line of duty.
We talked about it with Battle Creek Police Chief Jim Blocker and Calhoun County Sheriff Matt Saxton, including a frank discussion about how law enforcement culture may not always lend itself well to an officer disclosing when they need help.
