A man has been taken into custody after authorities say he shot at a house and held a woman hostage in Calhoun County.

Calhoun County Sheriff's Deputies were called around 9:15pm Monday to a house in the 3000 block of B Drive S in Leroy Township, on reports of a man shooting into the home. When they got there, deputies saw the man physically assault a woman; he then barricaded himself inside the house with the woman, and said he was armed.

For over two hours, the man refused to come out as crisis negotiators tried to defuse the situation; he was seen walking around inside with a shotgun. Authorities say that the man got more and more agitated, and they began to feel that negotiations would be unsuccessful; consequently, the Calhoun County Special Response Team was called in.

Members of the team entered the home and were able to secure both people; the suspect, a 63-year-old, was arrested on charges including aggravated domestic assault. The woman was uninjured, the CCSO says.

The Sheriff's Office was helped at the scene by the NHBPI Tribal Police, Michigan State Police, and Lifecare Ambulance.
