It’s an odd mix.   Party like it’s 1879 in a newly renovated gem from the 60’s.   The KCC Theater and Music departments are in their second weekend of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance”.   It’s your chance to see the classic show and check out the changes made at the Binda Performing Arts Center.

The “Binda” has always been one of my favorite spaces in Battle Creek, but it really needed a facelift.  It now has one.    I love the Binda’s size.  It’s big but not too big.  It’s comfortable.  It has a really good stage, pit area, and it’s design with the large apron area to the left and right in front of the stage gives performers a lot of great options to connect with the audience.   The theater has had major upgrades in sound and lighting in recent years, but the lobby, façade, bathrooms and dressing rooms needed work.

Now the Theater looks like a state-of-the-art venue, and it’s a lot more friendly and accessible.

I recently talked with KCC Theater Coordinator Brad Poer.
