Convenience Store Robbery Stopped by Clerk with Baseball Bat

A robbery attempt at a Kalamazoo convenience store was stopped yesterday when a clerk pulled a baseball bat on a knife-wielding thief.

It happened at the Sunny Mart convenience store, on South Westnedge Avenue at around 1:40 in the afternoon.  Police say a man came in the store and jumped on the counter brandishing a knife and demanding that the clerk open the cash register. The clerk responded with the baseball bat, causing the would-be robber to flee the store, grabbing a few items on the way.

The robber is described as a black male in his 40’s, with a bald head and wearing glasses. When robbing the store, he wore a grey hooded sweatshirt, but was later seen with a white shirt and tie.
