Mooove Over: Cow Stops Traffic On U.S. 131 In Allegan County (VIDEO)
Motorists on U.S. 131 experienced a unique traffic problem Wednesday when a cow was spotted in the northbound lanes near Wayland.
According to WOOD-TV, dispatchers were notified about the wayward cow at around 11:45. M-DOT and local authorities shut down the northbound lanes near the 135th Avenue exit. Meanwhile, Michigan State Police troopers and deputies with the Allegan County Sheriff's office worked with the owners of the cow to try and capture it. Eventually they were able to wrangle it and the freeway was reopened at around 12:45.
It's not exactly clear how the cow got loose and ended up on U.S. 131, but it is back where it belongs now. Thankfully, there were no reports of accidents or incidents related to the cow entering the roadway.
A similar incident happened on U.S. 131 back in January of 2018 and it was not too far away from this recent incident. A cow had escaped from a pasture and onto the freeway near Wayland. That cow was also corralled and returned to its owners without any traffic incidents reported.
