Battle Creek will be getting its dog park in the near future.

According to the fundraising website, Friends of Calhoun County Dog Parks raised $40,000 dollars, $10,000 over their goal, to build the dog park at Bailey Park on the northeast end of Battle Creek. They reached their goal on May 9. Reaching the goal also means the Michigan Economic Development Corporation will kick in $30,000.

The Battle Creek City Commission has a resolution on their agenda for Tuesday, which would approve the chosen name for the park, and officially call it “Home Run Dog Park”.

Home Run Dog Park will be located in the area between Roosevelt Ave. and the Battle Creek Linear Path, and will be surrounded by 6 feet galvanized fencing and include separate spaces for large and small dogs. It’ll have double gated entrances to keep dogs from escaping, as well as a pet bathing area, water fountains for people and dogs, agility equipment, and dog waste disposal materials.

The goal according to the fundraising site is to unveil the dog park in the summer of this year.
