The City of Battle Creek has now announced plans to repair and renovate two railroad crossings in downtown.

The City says that the projects will be done as part of the Michigan Department of Transportation Office of Rail's Local Grade Crossing Surface Program. 40 projects were approved by the state of Michigan for 2018, with two in Battle Creek.

The railroad crossings on Capital Ave. SW and Elm St. will see an investment of over $540,000, with 60 percent of the money from MDOT and 40 percent from the railroad companies. The City says none of their funds will be used.

Further details are expected in the coming months.
