As rare as they are in Michigan, the greater Battle Creek area experienced an earthquake shortly after noon Saturday.

At 12:23 p.m. Saturday, an earthquake, which originated 8 kilometers south of Galesburg, measured a 4.2 on the Richter scale, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

As of early Saturday afternoon, there were no reports of any injuries, or major damages, sustained during the quake, according to MLive.

WHAT DID IT FEEL LIKE?
According to the USGS, experiencing the intensity of the 4.2 quake would likely be similar to the following description: "Felt indoors by many, outdoors by few during the day. At night, some awakened. Dishes, windows, doors disturbed; walls make cracking sound. Sensation like heavy truck striking building. Standing motor cars rocked noticeably."

Local Roger Lucas of Battle Creek said, "The rumble was just like the movies here in Battle Creek. The china cabinet almost fell over from the shaking."

According to David Nighswander of Richland, "It sounded like really loud thunder. Nothing seemed to be shaking. Nothing fell over. I thought it was a huge explosion."

In Augusta, Robert Beckman said there was a "1 to 2 second rumble, then a bang/snap that felt like a car hitting my house."
