The first of this week's visits with candidates for Battle Creek City Commission includes Vice Mayor Lynn Ward Gray, who represents Ward 2. Gray faces challenger Leonard Davidson for the Ward 2 seat. Davidson has not responded to an invitation to appear on WBCK.

Gray has held the Ward 2 seat since 2009, and discussed the service-mindedness instilled in her by her parents. She also discussed what she saw as progress made over the last year on the commission, as well as her perspective on the BC Vision effort.

At-large candidate and incumbent Andy Helmboldt returns to the commission race after an attempt to gain the 62nd District Michigan House seat. Helmboldt was unsuccessful in that bid, losing to Rep. Dr. John Bizon last fall.

Helmboldt discussed what he perceives as the successes and challenges the city has, what motivates him to run again, as well as his impression of the BC Vision effort.

Hear both candidates by clicking the video below. On Wednesday's Richard Piet Show on WBCK, Commissioner Susan Baldwin will be the guest.

Hear The Richard Piet Show weekday mornings from 5:30-9 on WBCK.
