There is an update from a previous incident at Beadle Lake this morning following the disappearance of two people Tuesday night.


It appears that the two victims went out on the lake in kayaks at approximately 10:30 p.m. Tuesday night.

The Calhoun County Sheriff Department, paramedics from LifeCare Ambulance assisted with Emmett Township police launching a boat for recovery efforts.

Emmett Township Fire and Water Rescue were called to Kessler Road near Beadle Lake Road to rescue at least two victims in Beadle Lake at approximately 7:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. A witness at the scene stated there were possibly two kayaks in the water and multiple victims.

Though not much information is being released at this time, the Emmett Township Department of Public Safety is asking motorists to avoid the area at this time. Fire and police crews remained on the scene late into the morning.

The situation is developing and we will continue to monitor and update as information becomes available.

UPDATE: Two people were found dead in what appears to be an accidental drowning Wednesday morning. Authorities have identified the victims as 25-year-old Morgan McKenzie Smith and 32-year-old Timothy John Geibig, both of Battle Creek. Investigators say the couple were found on the east end of Beadle Lake. One kayak was recovered, while a bright green kayak has not been recovered.

Authorities say that life jackets were not worn. Autopsies are scheduled at Western Michigan University's Homer Stryker School of Medicine.
