The heavy rain hitting the Battle Creek area this week has caused the Linear Path to close in places.

The City of Battle Creek says Wednesday morning that the Linear Path under the Emmett Street Bridge near Wagner Drive, and under the West Michigan Avenue bridge in downtown, are both closed due to high waters. Barricades have now been put in place, and they will be removed when the water level lowers.

The city asks that residents and motorists try to avoid areas that are flooded, including recreation areas and streets. Calhoun County and most of Southwest Michigan were under a flood warning Wednesday morning, due to the heavy rains moving through the area.

These portions of the Linear Path often flood when heavy rains occur; back in November of 2017, those same two portions had to be closed.
