Great Escape Stages World Premiere in Marshall
It's not every day that a New York City playwright stops by WBCK, but then it's not every day that a new play premieres on stage in the Calhoun County area. Starting Thursday May 23rd, Great Escape Stage Company in Marshall will stage Kitrosser's play, "Third Person"
Third Person is a comedic play about a working-class American family whose patriarch, Buck, is hit by lighting, forever changing the way he interacts with the world. Following the lightning strike, Buck can’t help but narrate his life as it is going on, giving us his internal monologue at every moment, and ultimately divulging family secrets of mayhem and murder. Third Person is a poignant story about the crumbling of the working class family in America, and how the powerful tool of storytelling can help rebuild and reunite us.
"I love writing, and I think that everyone can be a playwright. The reason that I think so is that of all the forms of writing, there are the least number of words on the page of a play," joked Kitrosser. "So, how do you write a play? You sit down and whatever arguments you have going on inside your head, you let it pour out on the page.".
The play is done in just two scenes, both in different days in the family kitchen. Instead of ending scenes, Kitrosser says he likes to challenge himself to just keeps scenes going. "So I just kept pushing forward and seeing what would happen next if I didn't end the scene," explained Kitrosser. "Who would walk through the door" What secret would be revealed? What crazy thing would happen next?"
Well.....come to the Great Escape Stage Company and find out!
