Head-On Crash In Battle Creek Leaves One Person Critically Injured
Two were injured, and one person had to be flown to a hospital by helicopter with critical injuries following a serious accident just west of Battle Creek Thursday afternoon. Emergency responders were called to Dickman Road just east of Clark Road in the Fort Custer Industrial Park.
Authorities say a westbound vehicle veered across the median and into the eastbound lanes, colliding head-on with a van. A 35-year-old Pennfield woman who was driving the van had to be extricated and was flown to a Kalamazoo hospital. The other driver, a 43-year-old Kalamazoo man, was also was taken to a Kalamazoo hospital.
Investigators are trying to determine if the man was under the influence, but have not made an official determination. Members of the Battle Creek Police Department's Accident Reconstruction team were at the scene and Dickman Road was closed for several hours as the investigation continued. Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call the Battle Creek Police Department or Silent Observer. Battle Creek firefighters along with firefighters and police from the Veterans Affairs Medical Center assisted at the scene.
