Hey Michigan, Don’t Miss The Breathtaking Strawberry Moon
This month's full moon occurs on Monday, June 17 at 4:31 a.m. EDT, but the moon will appear full the night before and after its peak to the casual observer, making for an extra special night show for Father's Day. June's full moon is known as the Strawberry Moon, though it has many other nicknames by different cultures.
The Strawberry Moon was universally recognized by every Algonquin tribe due to this time period generally being the ideal time to harvest the fruit. In Europe they called it the Rose Moon. In other parts of Europe it is called the "Honey Moon" and "Mead Moon" as early summer is an ideal time to wed.
The moon won't be the only sight worth gazing in the night sky. Jupiter and Saturn will also be visible as they line up with the moon. Jupiter is at it's brightest in June. The largest of the planets in our solar system, Jupiter, and it's moons can easily be spotted with binoculars or a small telescope.
Now all we need to hope for is some clear skies...
